Real ID Act – Pennsylvania Federal Identification Requirement Status

with No Comments

Pennsylvania has been granted a REAL ID enforcement extension through October 10, 2018. Through this date all current Pennsylvania licenses and identification cards will be accepted for domestic, commercial flights and for entering federal buildings that require identification.

You may notice signs at airports or federal buildings that state you need a REAL ID compliant identification starting January 22, 2018. As a result of the extension, your Pennsylvania driver’s license will still be accepted after this point until October 10, 2018.

Pennsylvania will begin to offer REAL ID-compliant drivers licenses as an option starting in spring 2019. Full enforcement with no exceptions will begin on October 1, 2020. For more information about REAL ID, please review the PennDOT website.
